Allergy Relief Tea

No matter what part of the country you’re in, it’s safe to say, spring has sprung!

But there’s a lot you can do to prevent and relieve seasonal allergies and sinuses ! Most people just consider them a part of life, but actually, you don’t have to live with them!

It’s good to understand a little bit about what seasonal allergies are and why we get them. Seasonal allergies are, at the most basic level, our immune system stressing out. Pollen in the air can make anyone sneeze for a moment, just the same as sawdust can, but it shouldn’t cause an all out assault on your nose, eyes, and sinuses. So how can we calm the body down? We have to arm ourselves with the right herbs.

Goldenrod often wrongly accused of ragweed reactions, goldenrod blooms in the same places yet possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antihistamine properties.

Stinging nettle contains various compounds that decrease allergy-related inflammation and histamine. This is somewhat surprising considering that nettle’s stingers actually contain histamine.

Licorice roots from the licorice plant are renowned for their antihistamine and anti-inflammatory effects. It helps with a runny itchy nose.

Lemon balm, part of the mint family, is an aromatic herb with a lemon fragrance. Lemon Balm soothe headaches and respiratory symptoms associated with the allergy season, in addition to promoting relaxation.

Peppermint act as decongestants. This type of mint decreases the secretion of anti-inflammatory enzymes like histamines that are the cause of immune reactions against allergens.

The chemicals in orange peel have been shown to calm the histamine response in the body, making it valuable in relieving the experience of itchy nose and watery eyes.

Rosemary is a  popular herb contains rosmarinic acid, which has both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. The study also reveals that rosmarinic acid is a free radical scavenger that can suppress the inflammatory responses of certain white blood cells, as well as allergic antibodies. In other words: Rosmarinic acid should help improve seasonal allergy symptoms.

Horehound bitter mint-family herb is among the most popular herbs consumed in the United States… thanks to its inclusion in cough drops. Though best known for its ability to ease wet coughs and improve expectoration in chest congestion, I find horehound invaluable in run-of-the-mill allergies. It helps thin and move mucus in acute and chronic allergies, particularly those involving excess congestion, thick mucus, and post-nasal drip.

Mullein Dry mucous membranes, wheezing. Mullein is an expectorant, meaning it helps the body release phlegm and congestion. At the same time, it is a demulcent, soothing irritated tissues. This soothing, healing, antispasmodic respiratory remedy profoundly supports the lungs, especially when there is irritation, inflammation, or infection.

Known for its high content of Vitamin C, Hibiscus tea is said to be good for the immune system. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties which help in treating skin allergies.
