Here listed below are herbs that we put into our salve to help with the fight of Genital Oral Herpes.
(Lemon Balm) is my herb of choice for treating cold sores as it is active against the herpes virus family. It is fantastic both for cold sores (HSV-1), genital sores (HSV-2) and for shingles (herpes zoster). Melissa oil works so fast. Apply it with a cotton bud to minimize the risk of spreading the infection. Lemon balm showed to reduce cell degeneration caused by HSV-2 with a maximum inhibiting effect of 60%, therefore supporting its use for treating herpes lesions.
Neem has been shown to provide an antiviral treatment option for small-pox, chicken-pox, and warts. It is particularly useful for these conditions when applied directly to the skin. This is due in part to its ability to inhibit viruses from multiplying and spreading.
Neem extracts are toxic to the herpes virus and can easily heal cold sores. Both a mild neem leaf tea and a tropical cream application are recommended. Once the eruption has peaked, discontinue the tea (taken after breakfast and after dinner0 and continue to apply cream until the sore has healed.
Specific: Always do a small patch test the first time you use a new product on your skin.
Licorice root has shown that it can irreversibly inactivate the herpes simplex virus. Researchers demonstrate that a compound found in licorice, glycyrrhizic acid (GA), can kill cells that are latently infected with Kaposi sarcoma–associated herpes virus.
Oregano oil, antiviral properties potentially due to its high amounts of carvacrol, a compound found in many aromatic plants. Oregano has antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory , immune stimulant, tonic.
Moringa, a nutrient-packed plant found in India, is also known as the “miracle tree.” With antifungal, antiviral, antidepressant, and anti-inflammatory properties, it has been used for generations to treat skin.
Hypericum perforatum is a nervine tonic. Tonic is a botanical description for a substance that supports, nourishes, and balances the body. St John’s Wort being a nervine tonic means that it does this for the nervous system. St John’s Wort is used topically for wounds in highly innervated areas and it exerts an anti-inflammatory effect on the nerves. This anti-inflammatory effect may also be part of how it helps alleviate depression since depression and inflammation are clinically correlated. Another medicinal use of St. John’s Wort is for treating viruses like the herpes family which includes Epstein Barr Virus (causes mononucleosis), cold sores, and genital herpes. As many people know from experience some of these viruses can lay dormant in, and affect nerves. For example herpes zoster reactivates when a person’s immunity diminishes and presents as shingles, and there may be a link between Bell’s Palsy and herpes viral infections.
Chickweed (Stellaria media) herb has an anti-itch action. Once applied to the skin, chickweed will help stop the itch within minutes.
