Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) is an herb that’s prized for its distinctive aroma, herbaceous flavor, and purported health benefits.Wormwood has been used to treatintestinal worms  as far back as Ancient Egypt. This parasite-fighting property is attributed to thujone Wormwood has long been sought for its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties.

Besides thujone, another notable wormwood compound is chamazulene. It acts as an antioxdant. Antioxidants like chamazulene may combat oxidative stress in your body, which is associated with cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and other ailments.

Artemisinin, another plant compound found in wormwood, may help fight inflammation in your body. Prolonged inflammation is associated with several chronic diseases. Artemisinin is thought to inhibit cytokines, which are proteins secreted by your immune system that promote inflammation.

Wormwood may help relieve crohn's disease, which is characterized by inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract. Its symptoms may include diarrhea, fatigue, abdominal cramps, and other digestive issues.

HOW TO USE:

  • 1/2 teaspoon wormwood

  • About 1 cup of water  

  • Here’s what to do:

    1. Bring the water to a boil.

    2. Add the wormwood to a tea strainer and lay across the top of your cup.

    3. Pour the hot water over the wormwood and allow the tea to steep for one minute and no longer, to prevent it from becoming too bitter. 

WARNING:

 Wormwood’s most notable plant compound is thujone, which has some benefits but can be toxic in excess.You shouldn’t take wormwood if you’re pregnant, as it may cause miscarriage. 

You should avoid wormwood if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking certain medications. Additionally, people with epilepsy and kidney problems shouldn’t take it. Its long-term safety is unknown.
